West Oaks Church of God Newsletter for December 26, 2021

Someone asked Billy Graham about making resolutions for the new year. He replied Yes, the Bible certainly encourages us to examine our lives and resolve to change them if necessary (although not just at the beginning of a new year).

Why, however, do so many of our resolutions fail? Sometimes it's simply because they aren't realistic. Instead, they're only wishful thinking, with no way to make them actually happen. Some resolutions fail because we aren't willing to make the sacrifices necessary to reach them. What is the solution? Turn to God and seek His help to live the way we should. Ask Him to help you become the person He wants you to be. This is what Paul did, and that's why he could say, "I can do all this through Him who gives me strength" (Philippians 4:13).

Pray for Len Hayles, Ray Minger, Barbara Minger, Ruby Messer, Henry Messer's nephew's wife, Patty Bulcharan, Jackie Freeman, Cephas and Billie Ann Goodman, our pastor and pastor's wife, and our West Oaks Academy teachers and students.

  • --A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other.
  • --The year may change, but God remains the same.
  • --For the New Year, exercise daily, walk with God, and run from sin.
  • --Daily devotions are better than New Year's resolutions.
  • --For the New Year, resolve to lose the "wait" and gain the "faith."
  • --God desires daily commitments, not New Year's resolutions.
  • --Sin is a short word with a long sentence.
  • --Changing calender: unchanging God.
  • --Try to start every day this year with Bible reading and prayer. See the change it makes in your life.
  • --Social distancing does not apply to God: draw near to Him.
