We began an exciting new intercessory prayer group yesterday evening. It was such a genuine blessing to come together in unity and love to experience the sweet presence of the Holy Spirit! We looked at the third verse in the Book of Jude and began to really consider what it means to EARNESTLY CONTEND for the faith. It's very interesting to note that this is the only time in the scripture where the Greek word "epagonizomai" is used. It's defined as "to struggle for" or "to strive against opposition, as in battle". The KJV dictionary says it means "to use earnest efforts to obtain or to defend and preserve". This clearly gives us an understanding that there is indeed a struggle we face and that there is indeed some effort required on our part to have a good outcome. I'm sure we can all agree that while there are several weapons in our arsenal (i.e. The Word, The Blood, The word of our testimony, etc.), the most compelling effort we can make is to arise in spirit led, faith filled PRAYER.
Here are a couple of scriptures to further consider:
- 2 Cor. 10:4. For the weapons of our warfare are not physical weapons of flesh and blood but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds.
- Eph. 6:12. For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood, contending only with physical opponents, but against despotisms, against the powers, against the master spirits who are the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.
- James 5:16b. The earnest heartfelt continued prayer of a righteous person makes tremendous power available - dynamic in its working.
Having prayerfully considered what's at stake, we have resolved to regroup and set ourselves aside to begin to fight the good fight of faith with renewed zeal, fresh anointing, fresh fire, and a strong sense of resolve. We have full assurance that we are called and equipped for such a time as this - to overtake and see the enemy's defeat reinforced in our lives, our families, our church, or school and our community! One of my prayer mentors once said, "We have the keys to the kingdom"! It's time we stop jangling them around and start using them to open some doors!"
So, to that end, YOU are invited and encouraged to join us here on Thursday afternoons at 6:30pm to become a GREAT CONTENDER. We'll be learning more about prayer, about faith, about knowing God's Voice and about walking in the Spirit. We're expecting God's love, kindness and power to meet us here -- it going to be an amazing adventure in faith. Bring your faith, your gifts and enthusiasm and we'll go from faith to faith, from glory to glory and encounter God in a powerful way! Are you with me!?!
